Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. She first appeared in television shows as Jackie Harris, a character who was played by her mom in Roseanne, an ABC comedy Roseanne. However, her parents did not want her to perform until she turned an adult fearing the effect of stress. Perry said that she felt shy to act during high school, but started acting in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to build relationships after her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated in New York in search of acting roles on television. Perry was able to land small roles in TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. In the end, the feeling of homelessness drove her to California to pursue theater opportunities. Perry was a part of Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. Her father was also in the production. Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, Perry performed a role as a support in the ABC political drama Scandal with her father. That same year she portrayed a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother as a young version. The character was assigned an audition to the actress, in spite of the fact that she has a family tie to the role.
